Explaining how Technology is shaping the future of Fashion.

Fashion and Technology.
Two major concepts that make us, as humans, what we are.
Our use of technology is what separates us from most animals, and the progression and evolution of technology is what will keep the human race moving forward.
Fashion on the other hand is our culture.
It's really what makes us, US.
Without fashion and style, life would be a lot more bland.
Today though, we'll talk about how the advancement of technology is changing the fashion industry in many ways you might not have guessed.
Small Scale Fabrication and Manufacturing:
Do you want to start your own clothing line?
Maybe you want to start with embroidered hats, or even graphic tee shirts.
Okay, now you have to figure out whether you want the graphics your tee to be screen-printed or applied using heat transfer.
Which company to go with, how much are they charging and what's their minimum to order?
These are just a few of the questions you'll have to answer, depending on what type of clothing line you're looking to open.
What I'm finding out every day though, is that instead of outsourcing (using another companies resources to meet your needs), entrepreneurs are taking it upon themselves to gather the equipment and learn the skills necessary to produce their own merchandise.
Take for example Qool Perspective and Diamond District Steetwear,
both great brands hosted here on the site, and both started using their own machinery, the skills they taught themselves, and the fabric and hats they buy themselves.
To be honest, the fact that sewing and embroidery machines, for example, are cheap enough for the majority of the public to buy, is all because of the advancement of the technology associated with the machine.
Take the Marty McFly Self Lacing shoes (Nike Air Mag) for example.
They exist now, but the technology isn't well developed, so the shoes are expensive (real ones selling for thousands of dollars).
Once the materials and manufacturing process becomes cheaper, you'll see the price of the shoe lessen.
How Technology Directly Affects Fashion:
Speaking of shoes that are expensive due to the manufacturing process,
Yeezys are a perfect example.
Kanye himself said in an interview that he prices his shoes so high due to the cost of labor,
manufacturing, the quality of materials used and care to craftsmanship.
Right now, it's very expensive for him to produce the shoes, so until the technology advances to the point where the materials used and manufacturing process becomes more efficient, a slightly higher price is something that we must endure.
Personal Taste:
It used to be a little difficult finding unique styles, and pieces.
Especially if you're from a small town.
Individual style can easily get muffled when you start to see your shirt or shoes pop up on every random stranger.
Now, these days if you want to stand out, you can just order your clothing offline, sometimes easier than ordering a pizza.
Even from the other side of the world.
With sites like Amazon, Zappos, and more, you can find clothing that you wouldn't ever think of.
Afraid you're still going to blend in?
You can customize your orders at sites like Reebok and Nike.
Further giving you the option to stand out even more and make sure you have a true one of one.
Without the accelerated progression of the digital age, we would never have been able to even think of sending a personal picture over a digital medium to a company that ships your product personalized with your image.
You can take it even further and design your entire business online.
Sites like Shopify will let you upload your products to an online store,
where you don't need to actually hold any inventory.
Called drop shipping, your product is listed on your site and when purchased, is sent out from a third party.
You're the middle man with a picture.
So essentially all you need to do is design the clothing and sell it.
You don't store or handle the product.
These, my friends, are literally just a FEW examples of how Technology plays a crucial part of Fashion these days.
From lowering retail prices, to providing you the tools to easily start your own fashion company, technology reminds you why it's so important. The next time someone with a little style, tells you why science and technology isn't important, remind them that without either, we'd still be in caves, not Calvin Klein.
